Here is what we know...
The US Treasury, the Bureau of Fiscal Service and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced 4/2/21 that 130 million EIP payments totaling approximately $335 billion have been issued, and more coming. The payments are continuing to roll out in waves.
The third batch of payments, processed with an official payment date of March 31st, includes:
- The first of supplemental payments for people who received payments in early March based on their 2019 tax returns, but are eligible for a new or larger payment based on their 2020 returns.
- The payments will also include EIPs for whom the IRS did not previously have information to issue a payment, but recently filed a tax return, making them eligible for an EIP payment.
- These payments will be continuing on a weekly basis, as recipients continue filing their 2019 or 2020 tax returns. They will be comprised of 2 million direct deposits and paper check payments respectively, totaling $5 million each.
- Beginning April 2nd, payments will start going to Social Security and other federal beneficiaries who didn’t file a return in 2019 or 2020, and didn’t use the Non-filers tool last year.
No action is required for recipients to receive this next round of payments. Individuals can use the Get My Payment tool on IRS.gov, and for more information on the Economic Impact Payments, click on Economic Impact Payments.
